Tanglin vs AIS - for Australians

Post by OneTwoThree » Wed, 06 Jul 2011 11:20 pm

I'm trying to choose between Tanglin and AIS for our preschoolers (I have looked at others, but these two are my shortlist).

In some ways, AIS seems like the obvious choice - easier to fit back into the Australian curriculum (if we return to Australia); probably culturally more familiar for us. They also do the IB PYP, which Tanglin does not.

On the other hand, we live closer to Tanglin, and their school day is a bit shorter for the infant years. This will mean an extra 90 minutes at home per day up to year 2, and 30 minutes per day after that - which is a big incentive. (of course, we could always move!)

Tanglin is non-profit, which AIS is not. Since the fees at the two schools are similar, surely this means more money is available for equipment and teacher's salaries at Tanglin.

However, Tanglin does seem overwhelmingly British, which we are not. I would probably prefer UWC for the multicultural element, but the waiting list is impossible.

Also,Tanglin follows the British curriculum, rather than the IB - so possibly less portable? although maybe not so important in the junior years.

Any comments on Tanglin vs AIS (infant and junior years)?
Or how Australian kids go at Tanglin; and how well they transition back to Australian schools afterwards?

Thank you.

For infant and junior years both would be just fine. You seem to have covered off most of the significant differences already. You will find Australian teachers and teachers of many other nationalities at both schools.

Its a personal choice based on your situation. Either way they will get a great start to their education.

Good luck!
