Mahavishnu orchestra is a great band, with John McLauglin and his sympathetic guitars and Billy Cobham on drums its a very very trippy experience.
if you like their stuff you should listen to the following albums

1. birds of fire
2. the inner mounting flame
3. the lost trident sessions

the last album in particular is mindblowing

That's the one I started out with
The Dance of Maya: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPzkozIG4t4

But I like the studio version better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXuDijksD20

good recording - Cosmic Strut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZO50qj0_1A

Sheesh - that brings back memories, back when Fusion was something new and alien

Edit: Couldn't just hear one, found the whole album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg6bnKKGKdc

Though I prefer the musicians in the first incarnation, I prefer Visions of the Emerald Beyond to the earlier works, with the killer Narada Michael Walden (a guy I used to play with took lessons from him).

Hearing this again, it's easy to see where the early Dixie Dregs got some of their influences.

Dixie Dregs - Leprechaun Promenade (Live 1978): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNWEbRnAmb4

But to see what they're capable of, prepare to be amazed:

What they're famous for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOlxUqXDEHA#t=36m38s

To me music is old school rock; November Rain, Smells like teen spirit, Unforgiven etc most of Michael Jackson's and few of Madonna's songs too

My fav pub in Bangalore is Purple Haze in residency road :) Missing those days man :(

man how many pubs in Bangalore play metal/rock compared to Singapore
Styx, Legends of Rock, Purple Haze, Stones, Pecos, Mojos

I used to hang around Styx cause they used to play metal all the time plus my neighbour was the owner of that place I used to play a lot of my CD's there too.
I was half toying with the idea of starting a pub here which plays rock/metal but I doubt it will make any money
