Damn, that's so sad. Wilko is one of the good guys, Canvey Island's finest. Maybe when he arrives 'up there' he'll be able to hook up with Lee Brilleaux again and form another great band. Makes this song poignantly ironic I guess:

Dr Feelgood - Down At The Doctor's

What I always loved about that track is the "eight bars of piano" that you never actually heard.

Here's a South Bank Show piece on the band:

DR. FEELGOOD The South Bank Show 1981

Prompted me to find covers, thanks to Wikipedia, though I'm pretty sure there are quite a few more:

Doc Severinsen (!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX-aPJ6AB4w

Howard Stern and The Losers (!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BA753NWpKM

That was er, entertaining. And here I thought by misreading it that it was another one from these guys:

Back to KC, I think I mixed up ITCOTCK with 21st Century Schizoid Man

Voivod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLjZSyu236s

Talas (Billy Sheehan's* band before he joined Mr. Big) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEjFEDakHxc

This is pretty interesting (and not too bad on the eyes): Seasons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXWv-ghPVZ0#t=0m25s

Maynard James Keenan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8EOX9k6430

Kanye (!) sampled it (at the 34-second mark) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxEAJ4jSzMc

...and there's many more

Thanks for all of those links, what a journey of discovery!

I'd never heard of Billy Sheehan so that was a wow moment.

p.s. re: Kanye West. I've seen him interviewed and it was like he's been beaten severely with the dumb-stick. So why-o-why is he sampling a song that's from before he was even born. It could be a super-witty ironic statement, but from him, I doubt it...

Great album.... very Notting Hill c. 2000, hustling nights with mates down at the pool bar on Westbourne Grove...

Whenever I think of Motorhead, I always think of Hawkwind too. This is one of my favourites:

Hawkwind - Spirit Of The Age

"Your android replica is playing up again..." Those were the days when android had nothing to do with phones and we didn't even know about 'tablets'.
