Music
@RATM – Jorn Lande. Enjoyed that, bangin’ blistering guitar!
I remember a TV programme in which the philosopher argued that all Western music is at it’s core the same. He then went on to demonstrate how a headbanging metal song was far more similar to Mozart than one might have imagined. It was fascinating!
- Megadeath. Not a band I’m familiar with. Unusual accent he has that comes through. That was verging on ‘easy listening’! With their name I was expecting something dangerous!
- Sabbath cover – was ok, but even Ozzy sung better than that in his day. [That said karaoke tip: Ozzy had a very narrow vocal range, surprisingly so, so anything sung by him is sure to win you big points!]
- Butthole surfers. I’ve heard of them, but never listed to them; but I mean, with a name like that! But did you notice at c1:00 one of the cops is Erik Estrada co-star of the late 70s cop show CHiPS lol!! [Also see him clearly as ‘the guy on the right’ at 3:42]. I’m sure there is a whole back-story to their vid and style, but when you don’t know what it is, it’s all pretty odd.
- Monaco. The sound is quite ‘Manchester scene’ [think New Order etc., esp re: the bass].
- Fatboy Slim – I like this one. He’s very inventive, and he goes beyond the call of duty in the recording quality of his albums. You won’t get it through mini headphones but through a decent hi-fi some of his stuff is jaw-dropping (the '3D mixing' he does is superb).
- PAW – First impression (10 seconds in), wow the guitar sound reminds me of Helmet.
I liked it, but it’s not exactly background music.... hehehe...
@ Lynx, I’m too old to get the Supermario connection, but the guy is pretty smokin’ on gittar.

I used to love these 80s/90s rock ballad/operas. Do bands do this shit anymore? both these albums kinda sorta tell the same overall story.
These two albums btw (use your illusion I and II) were the first two I ever bought. I rode my bike to the music shop and bought the cassettes. I think I was 9 or 10. I had to peel off the "Explicit Lyrics" warning stickers. Looking backt I'm pretty sure the 16yr old working there knew and just laughed.

Illusion 1 & 2 were badass, and so was Appetite for Destruction all three solid hard rock albums.
I did the same when I was 11 or so I bought my GNR tape, I still have it at home.
and I still have a lot of metal tapes lying around and I listen to them as well.

C'mon you don't play Mario? At least in Donkey Kong? (I thought people of your age group would have known the games...)JR8 wrote:@ Lynx, I’m too old to get the Supermario connection, but the guy is pretty smokin’ on gittar.
Nevertheless, you should check out his playlist of other covers. I heard he did a cover for Canon in D, gonna check it out soon.

I think he'd be ok, most people wouldn't even know, today they'd be after you if you wore say an Isis t shirt ( band) or say anything written in Arabic on a black background.JR8 wrote:I'd like to see you get through a US airport in such a T-shirt!zzm9980 wrote:I may or may not have rocked a Charles Manson t-shirt in high school, like Axl Rose.
It may or may not have gone over well with the Dean.
I got pulled up (single male unshaven ) passenger from Dallas to Frankfurt.
Had to answer a volley of questions until he saw my Metallica jacket and then we were best friends.
