Blimey, feeling my age now in this discussion, if THAT is before your time
I remember the first time I heard ‘Madchester’ music, and it was Oasis. There used to be a branch of the Italian casual-wear shop Replay, in the basement of Ngee Ann City. Strolling in one day (c 20 years ago) while a friend tried on clothes, they had their first album playing over the PA. Come to think of it that was something that used to happen quite often back then, I’d be in a bar, cafe, shop and suddenly ‘be taken’ by the background music [cue: instant scramble to find out what the track was, before it ended]... hasn’t happened for years now.... shame...

Any Patti Smith cover of anything is better than the originalShouldBeFun wrote:Any cover of a Nirvana song is going to be better than the original

That is a very striking choice, from that band. I wonder why you chose it lol. In many ways it is so out of character from their other work.ShouldBeFun wrote:The Stranglers - Golden Brown

Funnily enough I got to see them in Hitchin where I'm from. We used to have this music event each year called Rhythms of the World and they played once. Sadly due to people not behaving themselves the event is a bit of a non event nowadays.JR8 wrote:That is a very striking choice, from that band. I wonder why you chose it lol. Now this is more of a hint of my musical tastes (not this song in particular) but if anyone ever wants to discuss Strummer or that whole movement I will happily waste hours talking about it!!!

Miles Davis - Doo Bop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irnsCscY ... 94A016A7B0
'The project stemmed from Davis sitting in his New York apartment in the summer with the windows open, listening to the sound of the streets. He wanted to record an album of music that captured these sounds.'

To me it's like an impressionist piece of art: An impression rather than 'a resolved answer on a plate' (as so music can be).
