BTW, although not music, if anyone wants to hear the background on that clip, it's from an amusing NBA excerpt about the famous Larry Bird:
http://clyp.it/jxiirrbe

Puts the other stuff into context.

Music next, unless PAB/JR8 insists on feigning innocence and keeps the popcorn makers in business.

RITM - Mrs. B got a big kick out of your popcorn GIF.

Lolz @ brah

Both of you need to calm the ... Down.
Btw on a related note there are some bands out there one can't just get into.
For me its pink Floyd, I've tried hundreds of times to like some of their stuff but I just can't seem to like them one bit.

You know the Sex Pistols famous PF t-shirt so you're not alone.

Need more info. As a hard fan from the early 70s until now, and some of their stuff remain near the top of my list if I had one, but there is a lot of stuff from their catalog that I wouldn't bother listening to.

For me that's The Wall (which is what the majority of non-PF fans have heard the most and maybe all they've heard) and everything after it. At some point Waters' broodiness became stifling and they used to be a lot more than that.

From your posts I take it that you like harder rock than Prog, so they might not be your thing.

What have you heard? I won't try to convert you but could direct you to what might be better stuff than you heard.

There was their experimental / psychedelic / garage-ish beginnings, which were very creative and groundbreaking but not for everyone, to some softer stuff in the middle which I quite like, before DSOTM and WYWH, which IMHO are classics but quite Prog.

Re the first thing - dude, I am so calm it's chilly in here. No stranger getting picked on by bullies, I come out swinging, and in this case, just watching PAB/JR8 squirm in the quicksand of his diatribe.

I hadn't heard this until now, but seems the arguably best Classic Rock song is being challenged in court.

For decades, Led Zeppelin has faced claims that they plagiarized their iconic 1971 hit “Stairway to Heaven”

Focus - Excerpt from Anonymus II, Live BBC Whistle Test, 1973

A lovely example of 'progressive rock'. To be able to pull together such a complex track in such a tight manner, on a live TV set, speaks to the skill of each musician.

Now this is unique for this thread, a post about Focus, oh please, with some Jan A to follow soon?

Next thing we can expect is some more Grateful Dead!

By "experimental / psychedelic" are you perhaps referring to "Interstellar Overdrive" and "Astronomy Domine" from 1967?

Interstellar Overdrive starts off with a powerful guitar riff before spinning off into very experimental sound:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o2sA0vpA-4

This live version of "Astronomy Domine" captured quite a bit of energy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49tLEcgW0Po

Quite a big direction shift from "See Emily Play" and "Arnold Layne," yet all within the same year (1967).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R8EpAv4miA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QReoowxr3lc

How about "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" or even "Corporal Clegg" from 1968?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vcd0sQL ... n-GB&gl=SG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59ic_qyFQC4

Very different from what became popular later and, as you say, "not for everyone."

Some trivia: One of their earlier incarnations (Waters, Mason, Wright and a few others) called themselves the Meggadeaths (yes, with 2 g's).

Precisely, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun kind of things. Or any of the stuff they played at the UFO Club with the acid-laced lightshows. I would add
Remember A Day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmSjEu57Lxs

This live Set The Controls, one can see how this was groundbreaking stuff at the time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH9heCbAyXM

But I doubt RITM would ever go for this stuff. It kinda had to be taken in context of the times. Then again it came out before my time and I still got into it.

He might barely be more likely to like this, if he doesn't get impatient with a 1:40 intro:
Sheep
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-oJt_5JvV4

I thought I knew just about all there was to know about them, but not that bit of trivia, thanks.
Speaking of PF trivia, I may have posted this before, the last few notes of Shine On You Crazy Diamond are a quote of See Emily Play, supposedly done for Syd.

Return of Giant Hogweed.

Transatlantic with Steve Hackett.

Great guitar duet around 6minutes into the song.

My friend got backstage with Steve about 2 weeks ago on the tail end of the last tour in NY, got a lot of time to talk with him, pictures together. Lucky dawg, a lot I'd like to discuss with him.

Now to change gears somewhat, just had to listen to "Water Song" by Hot Tuna:

Also found this live version from 1973, which is interesting to watch:

Yes a change of gears that takes us close to unwelcome territory but one that I happen to like about as much as the other.

One can't hear that without hearing their other instrumental, the 2 minutes of bliss that is Embryonic Journey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzhA77A1om8

Psycho Crooks - Nostalgia

---

Don't know how to term it, it feels like almost organic house in the way the beast writhes...
Absolutely dazzling recording quality. Honestly perhaps the best recording/engineering of any song from the web I've heard this year.

Now... to switch it on a loop, stoke up this Cuban, grab a G+T and sit outdoors and contemplate what that socking great star/planet over in the east is, about 40 degrees up from the horizon.... hmmm...
