As soon as you utter the magic words "I'm not buying anything today" you will have a lot more peace and quiet.

Tried that many times and never worked for me (at least in the mentioned outlets). Also telling them (politely), please do not follow me, if I need any help I will find you, not always work. I have to try the magic words of Aster hoping I will not be thrown out of the shop.

The worst is when they actually try and give you advice when you don't even need it. Like some elder guy telling me which Nintendo DS game is great and I could tell straight away he's never played any of them. Yet he thinks I'm going to take his opinion into account...

And it happens everywhere. Couldn't stare at the menu at this Soup-Broth-Asia place next to Soup Spoon in Raffles Place without getting opinions like "try this soup, really good". Shut up. Let me me read the entire list and decide myself.

But clearly such behavior must be expected/appreciated by the local customers (majority at least). Probably up to the point that having nobody swarming around you means bad bad die, never going to shop here again~

Nor I. And I gave up trying to find those magic words long ago and have since resorted to visual intimidation.

I just stare at them patiently and unmoving until they leave. It's kinda funny when they see you looking emotionlessly and directly into their eyes, they they start wriggling uncomfortably, and usually finally leave. Try it.

Honestly though, I really hate all of that and it makes shopping and dining here that much more unpleasant and stressful. I wouldn't complain about it if it didn't happen so often.

Actually I did and the girl tried to cover this apparently embarrassing silence telling me about their new promotions :)

That's brilliant! I will definitely try that next time.

Not sure if I'd be the first to break under that uncomfortable pause instead but will give it a try :P It's really something!

It was done up in a 'healthier than eggs-Benedict' way. Though to be honest lol....
