Hi all,
Im looking for some advice for a friend. He and his girlfriend are relocating to Singapore due to a job offer for him. The work he will actually be doing is in Laos but they have chosen to live in Singapore as his work will fly him to and from due to his roster. She hasnt got a job yet but will be getting some work when she can find it that is commission based not a fixed salary
So - does anyone know if he can apply for an EP or some other type of VISA here that will allow them to then apply for a DP for her? Is he eligible as he will be working offshore but wants to rent and spend his salary here?
Any help or guidance is appreciated.

To get an EP he needs to be employed by a local company or employed by the Singaporean branch of a foreign company based here. Will he be employed and paid by the Singaporean branch of his company or the Laotian one? If Singapore they will apply for an EP for him, but if not then he won't be able to get one and as such won't be able to get residency in Singapore. Without any kind of residency in Singapore they won't be able to rent a condo or HDB to live in.
If he's employed from the Singapore office but spending a lot of time in Laos then there will be tax considerations too based on how long he actually spends in each country

Illegal without proper work visa - must be employed locally in order to get one, or she has to start her own business using the EntrePass Scheme with is fraught with stumbling blocks, Research it on the MOM site or see the Sticky Thread here for Entrepass

Unless he is paid by a local company, as mooted by JayCee above, he's out of luck. He cannot rent lodging here either without some sort of residency visa (either PR or and EP of some fashion or another) as it's against the law for property owners to rent to someone on a social visit visa. Unless he is given an Employment Pass by the local employer, he will not be able to get any type of Dependent's pass or LTVP for his gf. In fact, unless he can document his de facto relationship, he won't be able to get any kind of visa for her even if he does have some sort of residency.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
