I have a live in maid and it costs approximately $1000 a month for us (wage, levy, medical, food, mobile, TFC (the Filipino channel ;), incidentals, increase in food, flights home, etc etc.)

However, I also have been giving her quarterly bonuses based on the work she is doing as she is very very good! We are very happy and she seems to be very happy and she has eventually stopped calling me 'Sir' and the Wife 'Ma'am'

She has her own room and everything she needs and between 1 and 1.5 days off a week and most public holidays. We are thinking of takign her on holiday with us (not to clean, just so she can get a holiday too) although, she may prefer to stay in Singapore and see her friends.

I take it you have a family? I see no mention, but if you are a single man, you cannot employ a live in maid (worth a mention)

Does take a little getting used to having another person around the house though, and remember, don't treat them like shit, some of the locals do that and that's generally why they behave badly IMO.

Cheers

You can have a maid, and a f fair number do, if you meet the MOM requirements .. even if you are a bachelor ..

A during my time in the maid agency, I heard enough transfer maids asking for "single male employer preferrrrrrred .. " :D :D

Don't ask me what their intention was ..

I never knew that! I was told by the agency that processed our application that it was much more difficult to have a maid if you were single male, and some have said it's not possible.

I can only imagine what some of these maids have in mind!

It's extremely difficult, but not impossible.

To be honest, 10 years ago, it was not difficult ..

Thanks to a lot of bachelors going in for 'live together maids' MOM has tightened the rules ..

And I am not kidding .. when I was helping in the agency, atleast a dozen such enquiries do come in .. every week .... from the prospective employees and prospective employers ..

And often, maids who do freelance do offer upto and more than 10,000 $ for every 2 year of WP .. and singles are preferred as they don't need to live with the employer .. and can shack in with their actual BF :D

ah Crap .. .. I seem to spill too much garbage here ..

One of my mates is a single guy and he has a live in maid. He had to pass a test though to prove his worthiness though as I understand.

Live in, but hopefully not "live together . " :D :D

The test is compulsory for everybody employing a maid .. not just for Singles ..

And that covers some basic dos and don't .. to ensure the employer knows the Roles and Responsiblities ..
