MS, let me put it this way .. Wikipedia is not accurate :D

And .. additionally, in Sri Lankan politics, leaving out the ethnic war et-al, there is more than that meets the eyes ..

and, well, Muslims too were massively marginalised, at one time ... let's not go there, as it will stir some serious emotional issues ..

And, enough Sri Lankans, non-Sinhalese, have been marked as "indian" under race .. even a Sinhalese friend's race was Indian when he got his PR, he had to really fight to get it changed, as ICA, not that it mattered for him though, as, firstly he is retired, and secondly, owns a few property in Kovan Melody, and his intention was not to avail of any CPF loan or whatever .. :)

He had to write in to ICA a few times, before his "indian" race became "sinhaelese" race ..

thanks, if you don't mind me asking, which category is there a severe backlash against ? (subtle hints also can :D)
These infos may hurt many but here goes for the benefits of other. As you are all aware, PR dishing ou t programme from the Gahmen started in late 90's and early 2000 to coincide with many projects undertaken by the Gahmen. Basically the Gahmen is one big massive employer of FTs. From new KTM lines, to Noah's Ark , Kopi Tiam Approved Gambling Dens , underground swimming pool, Long Kang Tadpoles Collection, P Lab on Artificial Island and the likes. The ideas from those armchair Ah Peks are like the "touch and go" toll scheme akin to bring them in and throw them out once the used by date has expired. As the projects keep on coming the number of these workers increase. It is also aimed to reverse the economy slow down and at the same time compete with China. PR and EPs were issued like nobody business. One of the reason is the failure or almost complete flop of Suzhou Industrial Zone and the GICs losts in many set up venture. Even Biopolis at one stage was going to be a ghost building.
The hindsight bringing in FTs are many. For one using SG as a stepping stone to other countries, PR philatelic hobby by our brothers in the sub continent, ingrates of PRc PR holders by declaring loyalty to their country of birth in the TV, Peens jumping to OZ, and NZ, Indons children not wanting to serve NS, the list goes on. Worst of all the population demographic became unbalance and political backlash was severe and damning
The end result is now. PR from all these countries are been closely reviewed , followed by religion.
Now the flavours of the month is M'sian Chinese and , Buddhist, Muslims, Burmese, Vietnamese. , Thais
The dirty words are "sub Continent, PRCs, Indons"
It is my observation to attain PR and Citizenship for these group will only be reviewed by mid next year

wow , you seem to have a deep understanding of the subject :o

Just an update, my wife's PR application was approved and we just completed the formalities yesterday.
A word of advice to those applying: make sure you're dedicated to singapore and not using it as a stepping stone. This will show up in your application somehow (ICA can sniff it). If you're not here for the long run, save your time and money.

There is something i've heard about having to have 2 months of LTSVP before getting issues a PR. In my case it was true almost to the day...

Singapore Citizenship

Post by appconsultant » Sun, 06 Nov 2011 1:31 am

I think a particular community get approval easily. We got a rejection and put as not eligible for citizenship. May be because of my country of origin etc.
