description of various districts

My husband and I will be relocating in July with out 6 and 4 year-olds. We are torn between living in the Woodlands at the Woodgrove or Rosewood condos (any specific insight on these would be great-walking distance/biking to SAS, shops, libraries, churches etc..nearby) or living say in the Dairylands or another district. Are there areas that are more neighborhood like, similiar to a subdivision where we are from? I haven't seen a general description of various districts. I'm curious if the Woodlands near SAS is made-up of mostly expats or if there are also other known expat areas. We are not opossed to moving into a very diverse area, we just don't know what to expect from the various districts. We are torn between living very close to SAS because it would be convenient for the kids' schooling or living further out but perhaps in a more "exciting" location. Or maybe the Woodlands are "exciting", we don't know. tia
And if we do select a condo what is it like to raise kids there??? Is the meeting place for kids to all get together the pool?? Here we live in a subdivision and all the neighbor kids just meet out in the yards and play.
