Moving in from Sydney...

Post by Michael_A » Mon, 06 Jun 2011 12:37 pm

Well, after months of haggling and waiting, looks like i will be moving to Sg by August 1... looking forward to living there (been to sg many times), and look forward to meeting some new faces...

am (a young) 46/M

am sure it's been asked many times, but where are the better places to live etc?

Michael

Thanks, work is near the Fullerton, and close to the MRT is a given i think.. i don't really want to spend ridiculous amounts in rent, just not sure on the best area's .. share is an option as well i suppose.

I see Singapore has "districts" as such, any i should avoid or look at in preference?

Guess i should post this in the living in Sg section..

OK I am sorry, I was having a poke at you. My apologies

Ok seriously, anywhere is OK. It is your budget itself. The closer to the city the costliest it will be
Some would recommend The Sails others East Coast other Novena etc....
MRT is at close vicinity to many districts. District 10, 11 and 12 is pricey.
If you are not prepared to fork out alot Go to Choa Chu Kang or even Woodlands.
The hindsight is the distance to travel by train may take you an hour but these areas are much cheaper in rents. Foods at the Hawker Centre is bugger all. Do not spend your dinner at Clark Quay as it will cost you an arm and a leg probably more
Go somewhere modest near the heartland
I will advise you to come over here and rent a Service Apartment for maybe two weeks then hunt around for your rent. Seeing is believing. There are alot of cowboys out there
If you are here and need advise on how to go about, ask us. The regulars here are the REAL COWBOYS. We will point you to the right direction and you will never get con and gives you a heads up on everything you need to know about living and working in SG
How's that ? Do not worry .

Thanks MS, no need to apologize, i did see the funny side...appreciate the advice..

The company will put me up for a few weeks, so will give me time to look around at what areas suit me.. i have known my boss for 12+ years, so no doubt he will have some advice as well.. was just trying to get my head around it all before i get there ..suppose to be there by August 1, and have to be in europe for a conference by August 20, so will be all go when i arrive..
