Expat leaving - Early Termination of Telecom services

Post by dubaiwiz » Sun, 05 Jun 2011 12:01 am

Hi,

I am an Expatiate in Singapore having lived for 5 months already but am thinking to relocate to another country.

I have taken the Starhub TV service on a 12 month contract and Starhub Broadband on a 24 month contract. Likewise I have taken a mobile line from Singtel on a 24 month contract (no device, only plan).

If I do decide to leave, the early termination charge for all these services looks scary.

Anyone has any advise on how to tackle this? Do the telecom companies have any waiver of this charge if the expatriate is leaving Singapore for good?

Any help/info will be highly appreciated.

I'm not sure about waivers, but you can transfer the services over to someone else. Give them a sweetener / incentive i.e. give them a few $$$ to provide a discount to the monthly amount and you should get a few takers.

Better than paying a lump sum to buy out a contract that will effectively be cancelled.
