Live in Maid or Cleaner?

Post by Guest » Thu, 18 Nov 2004 5:12 pm

Am thinking of getting a maid - have a 14 mth baby.

What do you suggest - get part time cleaning help, and wait till baby's 16 month for childcare? or get live-in maid and minimise childcare costs?

I am in the same position. I have a 12 month old and am wondering if I should employ a part time nanny first (if there is such a thing) and then move on to full time. What are Child Care costs like and how difficult is it to get into a centre?

Guest, are you working?
if not, part time help for cleaning is fine since kid is 14 months. I have a contact stash somewhere I need to find as I am not in SG now.
I never fancy leaving a child to maid's care alone...child care may be a better option. Finding a good child care is easier than finding a good maid. I had 2 maids before and both were bad so you really need lots of luck to find a good maid. One was like a child, dreaming all the time and the other was wanting to party all the time, felt bored and wanting to look for friends. So would you put your kid under their care? I would not!!
Also, these days there are infant care centres that accept kids less than 16 months if you are working. http://www.childcarelink.gov.sg/ccls/up ... CENTRE.pdf

Kim, there are part time local nannies, you just have to look hard enough to find one near your place. Childcare cost ranges from $500-$1000 per month based on what I have enquired before. Have not heard that it is difficult to get into a childcare.
Here's a link to make your enquiries: http://app.mcys.gov.sg/web/serv_dss_dis ... bMod=child

Hope this helps.

Looking for a part time help

Post by Seringa » Sat, 26 Nov 2005 1:51 pm

Hi,

I have 10 months old baby and do not work. I am happy to spend as much time with my baby as I can but sometimes I do need a rest. So I had a live in made but as somebody said before one needs a lot of luck to find a good one. Now I am on my own and looking for a part time nanny-maid to help me with housekeeping and sometimes to look after the baby. Will apreciate if anyone could recommend a good nanny.

Thank you.
