Can I sponsor my wife for PR? Advise pls.

I'm a PR in Singapore, and currently studying full-time, getting my post-graduate degree.

My girlfriend and I are in love, planning to marry when she comes to Singapore (shes from UK), hoping to go ROM@ www.rom.gov.sg

How's my chances as a sponsor(spouse in Form4 from ICA website) for her to get Sg PR status? I have CPF from previous employment, and paid income tax, etc, but I cant furnish a letter from my employers for obvious reasons.

Both of us have a basic degree, and have working experience after our uni graduation.

Thanks for any help.

you are advised to obtain prior approval to marry from Controller of Work Permits, Ministry of Manpower,

I would guess this applies to you!

Otherwise your income or funds must be enough for you to apply for the dependants pass. Once she gets that, then i suppose she could work for herself. Otherwise I guess it is difficult to get PR without job.

This is only my opinion, so take it with a pinch of salt! I'm no expert, but good luck

Not to my knowledge! I believe the process is that a DP like my self, must first engage in employment, self employment is ok, Because one must work for more than 6 months to qualify for pr status, while working self employed application for work pass must be obtained, which must fulfill the Visa rules & regs, SO you would transfer from DP to work pass, After the 6 month period you could apply for pr.

Self employed taxation does not step in until you have been working more than 6 months. Until then you remain under your own country tax laws.

Hi, my wife (then girlfriend) went through the exact same process, so I've got some good news and some not-so-good.

Good news - Yes, you can sponsor your spouse. E.g. get married first and then she can apply for PR. (I did, and my wife is now PR).
Not-so-good - There is no guarantee that her application will be successful, just because you are already PR.

The 'funny' part is that, during your application to get married, they will force your fiancee to read (out loud!) and then sign, a document which states that you both understand that just because she's marrying a PR, it doesn't guarantee she'll become PR too. Welcome to Singapore Inc. !!

Good luck, and all the best for your forthcoming wedding.
