For those that need help and advise.

Post by Mad Scientist » Thu, 19 May 2011 7:39 am

Moderators , regulars and especially newbies that seek advise.

Lend me your ears !!

I have been inundated with quick fix answers to newbies that need help especially on NS and PR issues.

For those that posted in the open. received their advises and deleted it after that which makes the thread useless as is of no good to others that faces similar situations. These people should be hang by the tree upside down and let the meanest, hungriest RED ANTs bite their arses till kingdom come.

For those that PM me ( which will remain confidential) after several correspondence and failed to understand the implications of their situation needs to have their heads check by a shrink !! Some just failed to understand and is looking for the magic bullet.Keep on pushing me to give the answers that they wanted.
When they cannot get the answers they are after, they labelled me as rude, selfish, jerk and many unkind words. How delightful to call someone that lends a helping hands those names.

For those newbies, if you need advise, you need to tell us the whole picture.
We are not clairvoyant nor mind reader that can go deep into your minds.
We do not have quick fix answers
We do not approve any illegal means
We do not approve flouting the law

We do not and cannot reveal individual names handling your case
We provide our answers base on past experiences, anecdotal evidence and guidelines that is readily available from the Gahmen.
We will apologise (especially myself) if there is any misinformation.

If you think that spilling your gut in the open is not your cup of tea, PM us and we will go from there but you have to tell us the truth nothing but the truth so help me GOD.

What recieve via PM will remain confidential that you can rest assured. I for one will keep that promise.

Those PMs that I have received were sometimes gut wrenching and very sad but this is life, no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes including myself. So help us to help you.

If you agree to disagree that is your call and only you can make that call

I am venting my frustration here as sometimes the things that people ask from me as though I am McGyver which I am not.
If you have information that differs from us please do share with us. Information needs to be verified not hearsay or rumours as it may affect others in the future.
We are here to help but it must go both ways.
Lastly, the regulars here are volunteers and not a single cent goes to our pocket so please be patient for the replies and have the courtesy to say "thanks" once someone here provide the informations that you are after. Shame on you for not having the courtesy to say "thanks" after all the help we provide.

Thank you for your kind attention

ms

I just dont know why you bother MS - you have way more patience than I do, that`s for sure.

If someone was to direct really uneducated questions in my direction (and it happens all the time at work), I would tell the monkey to go climb back up the tree.

MS, +100!

Yesterday morning I spend the better than an hour rebuilding two threads, that ungrateful posters, after dunning MS incessantly, went and deleted the contents of their posts (they can't delete the actual post but they can edit the text). This is unfair to all and a pain in the arse for the moderators who try to make this a good reference site. Fortunately, with screen captures, and some online board readers and cached sites from Google, if captured soon enough, I'm able to do something. Or if a poster gives me fair warning that they suspect it will happen (like MS did yesterday morning! Tks mate!) I can always lock the thread.

While I don't like to always do it, when it come to NS, Immigration, PR, etc, matters, I hope in the future ALL regulars who are the first to reply to a post, please quote the initial post. That way, even if the OP decided to delete the contents, I can always lock his account and replace the edited out text with the quote from the responder. (Normal editing is fine, but mass deletions of all the text are not) I think everybody is mature enough to understand what I'm saying - although I had one who PM'd me a number of times saying it was his thread and he could do what he wanted with it. I'm afraid he had a hard lesson to be learned.......

Let's try to keep this a good reference work.

And thanks for the vent Mad Scientist! Sometimes it's needed and after yesterday, it was.

Aargon, we all do it for the same reason....

If we can help one then who knows how many we have actually helped with were too afraid to actually post. One Thank you makes up for the, often, dozens who just disappear. We, who do this, know that it takes all kinds of people to make up this world, but the satisfaction of knowing you have helped someone more than makes up for all the a**eholes.

Aye Aye Sir,
Do we quote all types of "initial" posts? or just for PR, Immigration and NS types?

I think those posts that are governmental in nature are the ones we need to be mindful of. Especially those that don't have any sort of "fixed" goalposts! Which is just about all the Ministries. If it is a question concerning ICA, MOM, or IRAS then it should be automatic. (I also have a problem doing it as well). I don't think it's necessary to keep quoting so we have quotes within quotes within quotes, ad nauseum, but we should somehow manage to keep the OP's responses in one responders quote for backup purposes. (we can always try to get Admins to restore, but it's not a daily backup so it can be fruitless at times and it's a real pain in the A** for the Admins to do it - so I'd rather not resort to that).
