What to do about problem telcos here

Post by darpy » Tue, 17 May 2011 5:10 pm

Here is the situation, I have recently moved into a brand new landed property. 3 months ago I signed up for starhub TV at my other house and asked when signing if i can move it to my new house, they said no problem, it only takes a phone call.

Well I am here now, I ring them and they tell me "sorry, your house cant have starhub, its not in your area (bedok)".

Obviously I am peeved as I signed a contract with them, and said thats garbage as I was told i could, the neighbours have singtel, and while I am aware of different infrastructure I queried this before I signed and was told it was fine.

They promised to look into it and get back to me. They never did, and this became an ongoing too and frow, i ring to abuse them, they promise to call back and they never do. I confronted them on this and they admitted their call logs show they never called back.

Then, they say they will get an engineer to come and assess and will give me a call. I never receive a call again. Then when I call to find out again, they tell me I must oay $25,000 to establish connection !!! I said surely this is a joke, and they again say they will call back.
Wait 3 days and they dont call, call them again and they say perhaps it will be $260, sorry we shouldnt have said the other figure. So i said, "how can you know when your engineer hasnt been out?" they then said they would call with a time he will come.
Again they didnt return the call, and I call them again. They promise to get onto it and then someone finally calls me back to say, "sorry, it cant be done, but you signed a contract, so either find someone to take over it, or pay the termination fee". I said, "but your salesman told me I could get it" then they said what was his name? (this was 3 months ago) as if I would know.

Their customer service has been a total disgrace from the start, and I feel I have been getting run around in circles. In Australia I would atleast have recourse to an ombudsmen, but I feel here its wasting my time dealing with them further and I dont know what avenues are open to me.
Does anyone have any advise on where I can go from here, as I am loath to pay the termination fee?

advise greatly appreciated.

By the way. Did you tell them exactly where you were moving too? Or did you just mention that you would be moving, but not specifically?

There are some limited options like the mentioned CASE but at the end of the day it may simply come to the fact you will not be able to prove what you have been told by the incompetent salesman.
