Living in Singapore

Post by heideselena2003 » Sat, 07 May 2011 10:19 pm

Hello, :D
We are a family of four "hopefully" relocating into Singapore very soon. I need to know if a salary of S$ 6100 net per month, with school paid for my two daughters is going to be enough for a decent, confortable living. The school is city center, so I am aware I cannot get an apartment or condo, with a good price near by. Where should I look to get any condos maximum to spend S$2500 (looking forward new and modern, 2 rooms minimum, moder furnish, swimming pool and gym...)with an easy access to city center? How are all the other monthly expenses?. Most of the time for the first 6 months would be my daughters and me since husband can not relocate right away. That amount is the only income. It is realistic for me to move to Singapore and have a good life? I would appreciate any comments on that.
Thank you all,
Thalia

Heide.... this gets asked a couple of times a week, week in week out. Can I suggest using the Search function as a starting point?

In other words, you were expecting us to do all of your research then?

No, actually what I was looking is for a realistic answer, since I am looking at webs online, and some kind of anyone that lives in Singapore to give to me some hints about possible places to stay with my budget for the apartment (if it is realistic) and expenses and know if my budget is possible, so do not be so unfrendly please....nice way to make people feel welcome!!!! I have gotten some ideas from this forum already and from others, but it would be nice to know more....is there a problem to wanting to know more to make sure that I am doing the right move for my family? please, try not to answer to me anymore if you are going to be so negative and sarcastic.....

OIC.

Ok then. Rather than asking for suggestions of typical monthly expenses, why don't you lay down a line by line monthly budget from what you have gleaned. And we'll go from there.

It'll save people here having to repeat themselves over and over and over and...

Ok then, here I go with what I have been able to collect online for monthly budgets, can then you help me to find out if is realistic? Also, It would be helpful to know if with S$2500 I can get something decent (close to town or away) and name of places if possible (condos?): (Remember I am starting with a budget of S$ 6000 net for a family of 4)

Condo rent 2500/3000
Home food 800
Eating out/fun...500
Bus+MRT 300
Taxi 300
Insurance (only for daughters) 300
Mobile phone 150
Internet 50
Cable TV 50
School free of cost

Am I missing something?
Thank you,

The numbers are probably reasonable. Only thing I notice missing is holidays/home leave. For a family of four that is going to be $.

2500-3000 for a condo with pool? it won't be central. It could be wiser renting HDB and being near some municipal swimming facilities.

holidays/home leaves are not included in my package...that I will manage as it comes. I am aware of probably with the budget not being able to get something close to center, but I do not mind to commute.
Thank you for your reply,

OIC, your original post talked about being close to the centre I think. Use the search buttons on the site, see what it comes up with (no one here that I know of works in property)

Last place I stayed I would estimate that the premium for being in a 'condo' was maybe $1000-1200/mo over being in adjacent HDB, and that was with public pool/rec facilities right over the road.

Can you tell me the name of the place and I will look into it?
Thank you again,

I meant use the search buttons on this site.

There are plenty of v good pool/leisure etc facilities. I know of two in Toa Payoh and Hougang. There are surely many others

Try Jurong East or Choa Chu Kang, there are some good condos there
