Mandarin speaking nanny

Post by timothyjwalters » Thu, 05 May 2011 4:38 pm

Hello everyone,

We will be moving to Singapore in 3 months and are looking for a nanny for our 3 year old daughter. In all likelihood this will be a live-in position. We would particularly love to find a MANDARIN (and English) SPEAKING nanny. We are just starting to look, but If anyone has any leads or recommendations, we would love to hear from you!

Thanks,
Tim

Oh boy ~ where to start? Nannies are almost impossible to come by in Singapore. There are maids who are excellent with children, but most true 'career' nannies are brought with their expat employers from overseas. Most domestic help in Singapore is live-in. There are lots of maids which have worked for Chinese employers in Singapore, so they know a few words and phrases of Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, etc... but English is often the common language. You could try contacting some of the agencies her ein town when you arrive, but be wary. Word of mouth is the best way to find a helper, hard to do when you first arrive. Good luck.
