All have to pay the SGD 16,000.00, and not only the opposition.k1w1 wrote:I was reading yesterday about the 5 seats that are "walkovers". One of the opposition candidates (in LKY's constituency) was not allowed to run because the application was submitted 35 SECONDS past the final submission time. Another opposition would-be was thrown out because on her application form, she had written "unemployed" as her employment status. This was technically untrue as she was seeing out her notice period... I'm not sure about the other seats, but I found these stories pretty shocking. Almost as shocking as the $16,000 each opposition MP had to pay as their "application fee" to run against the PAP.
I have been really excited to hear Singaporeans get fired up about this election. I think the people are ready for some new blood in parliament.
EV, have you seen this first-hand account of what actually happened with the Tanjong Pagar nomination? The form was already in the election officer's hand but the commissioner of oath called them back. Fair play?ev-disinfection wrote:Forms submitted wrongly, is wrong or right?
35 seconds too late, they raise the money already, but did not submit their entry.
hmmm.... isn't that guy speaking, 1 of the independent opposition candidate?Wind In My Hair wrote:EV, have you seen this first-hand account of what actually happened with the Tanjong Pagar nomination? So many untruths going around. Thank goodness for social media where we have access to information from the source rather than what the state-controlled media says.
You obviously haven't watched the video. He is not one of the Tanjong Pagar candidates. Suggest you watch it.ev-disinfection wrote:hmmm.... isn't that guy speaking, 1 of the independent opposition candidate?
I watched the video, and the guy speaking is an independent opposition for another ward, and did not say he was part of the party that got rejected.Wind In My Hair wrote:You obviously haven't watched the video. Haha... the world has ended right, 2 or 3 opposition MPs have been elected.sundaymorningstaple wrote:Some damn good MP's & Ministers lost tonight. But on the bright side, I'll have lots more free time now that we will probably no longer have a grassroots organization as services are cut back trying to make our constituency look like Hougang. Although, I must admit, I enjoyed helping my neighbours, working for the grassroots organization for the past 3 years.
