Another excellent piece by Catherine Lim, this time on what LKY's resignation means. She has a good feel of the pulse of society, and writes beautifully too.

Okay... somebody please explain to me...
WTF does "Emeritus Senior Minister" mean?
And how come GCT gets a new title but LKY doesn't?
(Unless it's going to be Emeritus Minister Mentor - hang on that would spell out as EMM...)

But seriously, most brilliant people can be such big jerks.

[10 years ago I'd probably be arrested for even saying that. Remember that people. He is by no means some cuddly granpa!]
Ten years ago, people were not so vocal .. yes, and when GCT was handing over to LHL, we were sort of predicting, that it will be back to the days where bars will shut down at 11.55 PM, and dancing in concerts will be taboo, Mohammed Sultan will be turned into a cultural and heritage are.. not that it matters, MS wound down on it's own .. . and Indians will not be served beer .. (if you lived here long enough, you know, drunkards, right ????JR8 wrote:[10 years ago I'd probably be arrested for even saying that. Remember that people. He is by no means some cuddly granpa!]

PS: on this Indians and drinking theme about ten years ago, even the papers was publishing reporting 'higher consumption of alcholol among indians .. ' when I clearly saw the majority people downing atleast 3 different coloured liquor (JD, Hennessy, Chiva) and all 3 bottles bottomed up by a group of 4 or 5 guys, whereas the poor indian could only afford to drink a couple of jugs and was still called a drunkard

PS: one of my team member before, a chinese guy, had a failing liver at 28 years .. due to the drinking style of chinese youngster .. but, hey, what did I know ..
It means GCT knows where the skeletons are buried, so they're going to continue to pay him $2.5m a year to ensure he keeps schtum.Addadude wrote:Okay... somebody please explain to me...

Lee Kuan Yew does not need a title. He has transcended titles... In fact, his name IS his title.Addadude wrote:And how come GCT gets a new title but LKY doesn't?

Dear Catherine,
I read your commentary with some exasperation. It seems as if you have to make a wonderfully accurate commentary on all that is going on politically and go down in history for your sharp wit and perception. And to talk in terms of “downfall”

Catherine Lim basically wrote an obituary of MM
What does these three Great Statesman have in common albeit in their speeches
What makes them Great Statesmen with their speeches among other abilities and their speeches were their downfall.
The opposition got substantial votes not because of their mandate. They have not a clue on how to move forward. They got the votes because the people is just fed up. When you keep on pushing down stuff on one's throat for a long period of time, something will come out as vomit
There is no place for BIG BULLIES either at the child's playground or any government.
