Hello!
Firstly, thank you everyone for contributing to this wonderful forum! I've got a lot of useful information about a prospective move to singapore from reading some of the topics.
I was wondering if someone could shed some light the terminology used when discussing salary packages in singapore. I understand a large portion of a salary could be in bonuses, so when an annual/monthly salary is quoted here or elsewhere, is it the effective salary or is it excluding the bonuses?
I ask specifically because I have been offered a position at an AStar institute, and I am considering moving there from the US. I have read elsewhere that a NUS postdoc makes S$5-6k a month (can someone confirm/deny this? is this including/excluding bonuses?). However, I have been offered a lower salary based on a 15 month package (12 months + 3 months bonus). Can someone who is familiar with postdoc salary packages comment on the whether this is equivalent/better/worse than standard postdoc salary packages.
Also general comments about working at Astar institutes, their reputation level of compensation etc. will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I was on a path into scientific research once. To see a post-doc looking for $5-6k a month reminds me why I was very wise to jolt myself out of that groove.

Hi JR8. Thanks for your reply. Could you perhaps clarify a little bit further whether or not i'm being overly ambitious here. I would like to clarify that the title for the position is research scientist not a post-doc. I was using a post-doc salary as a base-line estimate as a minimum I should expect. Could I be wrong in this? Also, any idea of the bonuses etc.?

No man.... all I'm saying is that I was in that mold. Then I had the mega-epiphany and realised that following my passion and living on Magi noodles was not going to do it for me.
My talents in the scientific field, took me much further in the finance field....
Learn when to prostitute yourself.... lol

Lol... you must be form the UK! or, god forbid, is this a global trend? I was hoping to shake of my ramen dependence, with what at first seemed to be a much higher offer than I would expect as a postdoc in the US. However on seeing some estimates of the expenses, I'm not too sure of this... hence the post. Thanks for your help!

Hehehe... is it that obvious
Good luck to you. Following your passion is a beautiful thing... (I just decided to tart myself, as such, not that I regret it for a moment... )
