Singpost junkmail campaigns and the option to opt-out.

Post by Edroche » Thu, 21 Apr 2011 12:24 pm

After meeting one of the singpost folks through the back of my mailbox as it was being filled with 10% off chicken-t wing promotions, I asked how I was privileged enough to receive such fantastic offers. I managed to get her in a head lock surprisingly quickly and asked who she was working for, who sent her. She said that she'll never talk so I got out a cordless drill I had in my back pocket. Why I had one there at the time doesn't matter as I'm lying. So anyway I was at the postbox and met the postmanlady. She kindly pointed out the phone number above the letter boxes that could be called to unsubscribe form the junkmail. Fill out the online form and that should be the end of the junkmail. Go green and stop waste is it.

5. Opt-Out Service

Residents who do not wish to receive unaddressed promotional mail may write in via "Contact Us" (select service type “Postal Service”

All fine, well & good, except most people do not have Singpost boxes. Have you figured out a way to get rid of the mailbox stuffers who do the rounds of the estates daily in droves.

i guess the above is for HDB dwellers only? Whats with the maibox surfers where you are? My mailbox has a lockable flap so that they cant put junkmail in the front, its only reserved for singpost who has key/access from the back. Having said that ive seen the guys checking for open flaps. The folks who stuff the property agent adverts in your gate is different. No idea. Is that legal by the way?

 Apparently, yes. As they are not throwing the garbage on the ground, but sticking in your grills. Fine line, I know, but I've been fighting it for 12 years now.

Yeah, I remember way, way back when I lived there, we weren't immune then either although the volume wasn't nearly as bad. Course that was in 1982! :o Just shortly after the Gutenberg press was invented!

update just in case anyone might read this later. I've sent back all of the letters by writing 'Return' + 'Not at this address' - fired them in the post box without stamping. The flow of unwanted mail for other people has almost stopped and maybe get 1 or 2 per month as different to a few per week.
