More Slingbox questions

Post by Geardownflap20 » Thu, 21 Apr 2011 9:35 am

Hi,

I'm shortly coming to Singapore on a posting and am trying to sort out the Slingbox thing. There is some info here about reconfiguiring routers to point them at the web. My question is, how do you do this? How will I be able to 'find' my router, I, like most people have my ISP dynamically addressed. Does this mean that I need a fixed IP address?

Sorry to sound so dim!

I'm not an expert on Slingbox installation, so please correct me if I am wrong.

I think it would be pretty similar to hosting any type of servers from within a LAN.

It depends on the type of routers. Different routers have different method of configuration. What is the model of your router?

You may need to forward the port used by the box to the internal IP used by the Slingbox.

How are you currently connecting to your Slingbox from outside network?

ok, here's the low down on setting up slingbox.

fixed WAN ip would be best only if your isp keep reneweing your dhcp WAN ip. i am on dhcp ip but my isp never renew it and had the same ip for years! so what you need to do is to check your WAN ip is not changing.

then you need to use port forwarding on your router to forward the NAT ip from your slingbox to the WAN ip. this is how it works - when you are in singapore and you goto your WAN ip, it will forward it to the slingbox.

i think you can use the slingbox to access your PVR/DVR. i am using the slingbox classic for freeview and connect/controlling a sky digibox.

That's it... bye bye CarlisleSG, especially since you are posting from a Philippines IP address.
