Help for local middle school, please

Post by Jenny1994 » Thu, 21 Apr 2011 1:57 am

We are going to relocate to Singapore from US this summer. Does anyone know about the local middle school? I do not know anything about the local school and could not find it on the internet. My daughter will be in 7th grade but the waiting list is crazy at International School. PLEASE HELP ME. Any information would be appreciated. :???: [/b]

There is a community of home schoolers here in Singapore. You might consider that option while you wait for admission to an International School.

Try the International Community School (ICS) which offers an English-medium US-style education. It is a Christian school with decent academics and lower cost that most. And no waiting list.

Who told you that ?!? All the International Schools?? Or is this more of a budgetary concern? I would think long and hard about making a move to Singapore only to put your middle schooler in a local school unless you have some international experience or she is the most well-adjusted, gregarious, socially-confident girl in the world. Middle school is a TERRIBLE time to move a child and to put her in a completely different culture and education environment would be a recipe for disaster in my opinion. If you couldn't find any information about education in Singapore on the internet then I suspect this move is not for you.

Agree with PP. Do NOT consider placing her in a local middle school. Better to stay home.

I called Stamford American International School , OFS; they do have the space available. How is the HWA Chong school? I just saw this today. Thank you very much

Hwa Chong is largely Chinese and you aren't likely to get in due to demand. Again, have you looked at ICS? Smaller than OFS and less crowded.
