AAhhh conversion help, Dutch > English Driving license is

Post by MrBear » Fri, 15 Apr 2011 4:38 pm

Dear all,

I'm in need of some help/advice.

I living in The Netherlands for 8 years and got my English Driving License converted to Dutch. Since then moved here and want to now convert to Local.

Called traffic police and they advised me I need to get it translated and then approved by the Dutch Embassy.

So called Embassy asking if they have a translator to recommend and how much for the approval letter. The basically told me I'm not getting a letter from them because I'm not Dutch and I can't even pay for it.

Called the Police up and asked them "So How", they told me to speak to the Supreme Court and get an approved translation form them. They were very happy to give me a list of freelance translators but were not sure if the police will take and told me i will need to get a letter from the embassy.

So now I'm a bit of a loss what to do? can I wing it and go with the translation and hope it gets by?

if I'd have know it would be this much hassle I would have gotten a new UK one made and sent over but that can take 3 months and i only got 3 weeks before my year is up. I really don't want to have to take test again.

anyone got any ideas or contact that might be able to help me ?

Many thanks

MrB

Well I'm British with a Danish licence, I should imagine you have the euro licence, which is numbered and letter references for vehicle groups. I never had any problem getting the local licence.

I would just hand them the Dutch licence if it is a Euro licence and they can see the details, the same as the Danish one. They do not keep it, and they do not give all grps either they will give you just the basic licence and motorbike if you have it.

Either that or apply for a 1 year international licence in Singapore from the AA in your home country or Holland, Maybe the British embassy can help you out.

Bzzzzttt! Wrong info. AA will not take a foreign driving license to issue an international license. Says so right on the page you quoted.
