i'd be moving over to Sg if everything goes well in coming MAY.
but im confused as to where should i stay as my office will be located at toa payoh.
considering the fact that rental at toa payoh is a bit costly. as i've surveyed and most of it offers Sgd500 and above . and im not into sharing room.
What about areas like bradell mrt and near thompson road? is it convenient to catch a public bus to toa payoh?
thank you

since you not into sharing rooms, how about sharing bathrooms, kitchen and common area?
singapore is not cheap, so make sure you know what you are in for!

Its not just Toa Payoh, you wont get a room for any cheaper than 500$ anywhere in SG. So if think 500$ is too much, then either you have been short changed with your salary package or your expection of SG's cost of living is really over over optimistic

1st classification is there are 2 types of houses in SG
1)Condo
2)HDB
Next there are 2 types of rooms in SG
1)Master Bedroom -> has bathroom attached
2)Common Bedroom -> no bathroom attached.
Thats all you need to know.
Sharing can happen at the house level, at the room level or at the bed level, upto to you

I would question that, some of our workers are paying $250 shared HDB, with locals. I guess the longer the
property is purchased, the cheaper the rent in some circumstances, though sub letting permission is needed. Singapore does cater for the broader market, though you need to search for this, older retired couples are willing to take in low paid workers, as they need the income, so 3 to a room is not uncommon. Though you need to be mixing with the low paid workers to discover the network. It is impossible to live alone though for that price.

OP was asking about rooms WITHOUT sharing. $500 is about the minimum if you want something that's not a roach infested hole.

Most of the locals are renting to mainland Chinese for that amount in decent non infested homes and I know one lady with a child studying paying $350 a month in a non infested home opposite Kovan

Though the OP wants a room to himself beggars can't be choosers, he now has an option to consider, we don't always get what we want, maybe his face doesn't fit and the rate jumps to 1k who knows, this is Singapore anything and everything is available if you know where to go that's all I'm indicating, you need to ask around in the heartlands to get a good deal not all are after money

Just found out tonight our new worker has found own room in Bedok for $400 HDB with no others only landlord.

I would think that was ideal. Peace and quiet. Of course, if it get "noisy enough to wake the dead" then you might have a problem.

I've been living in Toa Payoh for a few months now. I'm finding it a pretty cool place. Not so much going on bars/night life wise but that keeps me out of mischief on a school night

Two
condo blocks I know of if you were considering sharing. Trellis Tower and Oleander. Older buildings but not bad.
Great little shopping areas..cheap and cheerful. Get yourself a short term rental then have a noisy about and see what you fancy. Good luck

Helo Tsilivi, thanks for the much needed luck! and I'd second that Toa payoh is a very peaceful and serene place! i went to Toa payoh a few weeks back couldnt agree more! ;D
Do you mean sharing rooms or sharing the condo? hehe . im working around that area, if price for rooms fits my budget, then why not? lol.
Am actually looking for hsemates that are working professionals/students . Landlord would be troublesome much. because when and if my family visits, i hope then can spend 2-3 nights with me!

dont know if landlords will allow this 'clause' haha.
