Early termination issue

Post by bluenose » Fri, 08 Apr 2011 7:23 pm

I had a year lease on an apartment and bought a new one recently and told the agent I would not be renewing and he asked if I was willing to move early as the Landlord had another tenant waiting...
I arranged all and am ready to move...now my agent says the landlord does not have a tenant....can I claim from the agent??
Any help would be great

skip the agent, and go to the landlord and find out if the landlord was part of this charming offensive to increase your rent ..

Not sure I understand...
I was asked by agent to move out one month early as I had already bought an apartment...arranged everything...now agent says landlord has no new tenant and wants me to see out the original lease, which will cost me an extra month rent...best to pay and forget??

If the agent sent the notice in writing or SMS, cal the landlord, tell him the deal and walk out ..

why you wanna pay for the agent's screwup ? Tell him/her to pay off their commission for messing your life :D :D

It's not your headache if the landlord has no tenant ... as the agent claims ...

I would imagine unless you have some binding form of early termination agreed in writing then you are bound by the original tenancy agreement.

It is a bummer having your goodwill trodden on, but you'd have a job proving your losses I think.

Worst comes to worst, as you say bite the bullet and move on.
