Cost / Standard of Living Comparison

Post by Azza » Mon, 28 Mar 2011 8:13 am

I am hopeful of making a move from Australia to Singapore in the not too distant future. Can anyone point me in the direction of an online calculator that can give me a benchmark in terms of comparing my Australian salary to a potential Singapore salary?

Basically, I am looking for something that says - if you make AUD$150,000 in Australia, then you would need to earn SGD$Xxx in Singapore to maintain your standard of living.

I've had a couple of preliminary discussions with prospective employers, but I am having trouble answering the question around my salary expectations.

Any help would be much appreciated.

This have been discussed numerous times in innumerable permutations. Please use the search function for specific aspects of your query.

That was the response I expected therefore I spent over an hour trolling through pages of discussion that didn't specifically answer my questions.

Nobody knows your standard of living do they. I know guys who make a quarter mil a year and don't own a car as they feel it's a waste of money here. So how? As pointed out, a search for specifics on this site will probably provide more permutations than any calculator. You would also have to factor in things like whether or not you will be de-registering yourself from Australia for Tax purposes. See posts by Nath21 for good info there. The search function just below the "Profile" link at the top right of area of this page is a good place to start.

A$150K means a take home of A$107K

Considering the Purchasing power parity, i.e S$ = A$ in terms of what you can afford to purchase, you'd take home S$107K if you earn S$115K per annum.
