I'm reminded of my SGn in-laws (humble heartlander-pensioners). We were in Washington DC, and on our last day we were going to go the Washington Monument, VN war memorial and The Smithsonian.

The inlaws declined, and we later learned instead went shopping, and for dinner at Hooters! My c75 year old FIL even brought back Hooters T-shirts for eveyone!? So while wife + I were admiring the Apollo 12 (or what ever) re-entry capsule, which was *tiny*, he was off admiring something of a much grander scale! :o :)

When I lived in the US, I picked up an ancient 1930's equivalent of a 'Betty Crocker'-style cookbook, at a flea market, or yard sale.

Some of the recipes were way-out - to modern eyes - as a result of the poverty back then. Squirrel pie was one at the posh end of the scale...

Not sure on squirrel pie, but me loves a big bowl of squirrel stew.

Our own ecureilx excepted! :o

Muskrat stew is rather good as well, plus, like rabbit pelts, there is a market for muskrat pelts.
