iPad or iPad2?

Post by SingLife » Fri, 18 Mar 2011 11:17 am

Hi Friends,

A bit torn between buying the ipad or waiting a couple of months for the ipad2. FYI iPad with Wi-Fi only is costing now SGD 538 from the original price I guess of SGD728.

Leaning more towards the ipad, as I don't find anything pathbreaking in the ipad2. Video camera is not of much use for me at least. main need is surfing the net, checking emails, some apple apps, angry birds...They say the thickness is 33% less from the earlier but weight is just 12-15% less. From the pictures it seems they have curved around the edges, making it look thin. The processing speed is double but not a a heavy gaming person or so. Software updates done in ipad2 are valid for ipad too. Further I think max life of use of the ipad if I buy will be 2 years, and Apple would be giving updates till that time for it.

What's your take?? :-|

Ipad 2,
It also has 2 cameras and the same long battery life as the ipad. Plus now they have a cover / protector that also doubles up as a stand / prop up.

If you're going to be browsing the web a lot then definitely iPad 2.

With several windows open in Safari, you cannot just switch between them in the old iPad. That it you can, but each time you go to a window it will have to reload itself, which is a downright PITA. With the iPad 2 the surfing experience gives you no such problems.

one of the portfolio manager that look after apple investments had an ipad2 for evaulation. he had a personal ipad too and he said by comparison, the ipad2 is miles better. he has been a tablet user on windows platform for years from a thinkpad x41t to a x61t and now a x201t.

Ipad 1 was a nice introduction, but not feasible for the mature techie with needs, that's why we wait for Ipad 2 multi tasking.

Honestly I wish that the iPad and that HP WebOS tablet would merge. I love my iOS apps and I really do like how WebOS handles multitasking.

... but if I had to make a choice I'd probably go for iPad 2.

I’m waiting on the iPad 3. I am still a little annoyed that the iPad 2 didn’t have a USB port.

Even if the iPad 3 does have a USB port... its going to be mostly useless w/o drivers. The current camera connection kit that allows USB hookup doesn't work with all keyboard or headsets.

have read the Xoom reviews, quite promising. but seems overqualified for my needs at least . Also the price is 800usd which is around 1000 SGD. hasn't been launched in sg I believe.

I feel ipad2 was launched in a hurry, to bury the competition before it stands on its feet. as said doesn't have usb port which people were wildly expecting. ipad 3 would be the real game changer but no one knows its launch as of now.

having used iphone I feel non-multitasking has its own benefits in such devices. All resources are allocated to that single application, resulting in faster processing, no hanging, no crashes. could be wrong but own observation.

have almost decided on the ipad. Nakatago couldn't get hold of that text picture :?
