Chances of getting a job in Singapore with my qualifications

Post by iastate » Tue, 15 Mar 2011 7:06 am

Hi guys, I graduated from a university in the U.S. in Industrial Engineering last year, and I am heading back to Malaysia in two months' time. I am currently looking at jobs available in Malaysia and Singapore. I consider myself a pretty strong candidate compared to other fresh graduates and even some entry-level engineers. I spoke with a hiring manager at a MNC in Malaysia, and she advised me to apply for jobs in Singapore. However, after spending some time on this forum (this is a really good forum, by the way), it might not be as easy as I previously thought to obtain a job in Singapore.

I know there are a lot of experienced professionals on this forum. I was wondering if anybody cares to take a look at my resume and gives me some suggestions or thoughts on my credentials. I want to know my chances of securing a job in Singapore and avoid from being over-confident.

Also, should I start applying for jobs or should I wait until I get back?

PM me with your email address and I will send you my resume. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

So I guess you are a Malaysian. Are you a Chinese , Malay or Indian ?
There are a list of accredited Unis in MOM list. www.mom.gov.sg. Google there and see if yours on the list. Once you have done that , we can go from there.

BTW the bucket has to look for the well not the other way around

I am a Chinese.

I just checked it on MOM website. My university is not on the sample list. There's not a full list of accredited universities but only a sample one. I received my bachelor's degree from Iowa State University. It is not the like of Harvard or MIT, but it is neither a third-tier university. It is ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the U.S. I did the self-assessment on MOM website providing my school information, and it said I was likely to qualify for an EP. By the way, Iowa State is on the list of institutions in the self-assessment.

Ok , now we are getting somewhere. From the earlier post you sounded pretty confident about yourself. You can do the self assessment tool and apply on line . At least MOM will do the necessary vetting or you can wait till you come back . At this moment jobs are hard to come by. Not sure of the success rate but hey do not let us stop you from applying
