earthfriendly, oh yes what shall we do with the fact that politicians or corporate executives are less responsible than gangsters! :???:

I’m based in Singapore and was able to catch up with both international and Japanese mass media here. I understand what you mean… obviously Japanese media have been subdued. While CNN has assumed some worst-case scenarios involving many researchers or professionals from the beginning, NHK has just simply reported the information disclosed from the government and TEPCO, who have just underestimated the crisis…

Probably Japanese mass media were careful not to become rumor sources by reporting uncertain information and cause people’s panic if we see it favorably, but it is quite subtle, because TEPCO had been always one of the biggest sponsors for major media companies…

You know who was right from this. NHK reported at first the magnitude as 7.9, and no nuclear meltdown (afterward they changed the magnitude to 8.4, then 8.8), while CNN from the beginning said the magnitude as 8.9, and meltdown suspicious… It was another shameful thing… :(

I don't know anything about Japanese media but Western have a clear tendency to be over-sensational and CNN is not free of it. It does not hurt them to say 8.9 in the headline and if not confirmed correct it a week later in the 23rd page, bottom column in small print.

Ha, ha, I don't really know. Maybe turn them into gang members and then they will learn a thing or two about working for the public good.

I actually think the Japanese press is being responsible by not sensationalizing, fear mongering and being more thinking about the consequence of the way they do reporting. Although NHK has been criticized for being too lenient towards the govt and authority and not vocal enough. There needs to be enough objectivity and ability to expose the govt weakness and yet not sink into a mud slinging culture.

Bathad, thanks for many outspoken comments. It is sad to say but you are almost right and I understand except for some weird quotations you pasted such as IBM’s recruitment policy

Note most of the Japanese non-functional groups are operated by old males and they have had a big sense of discrimination not only towards foreigners but also females and ambitious younger generations in their country for ages. Their concern is far from doing something productive or result-oriented, but maintaining the male hierarchies and protecting their statuses and vested rights.

They hopelessly lack of diversity or innovation spirits and deserve to be called “Big Fat Loser”

Those bath houses or pubs have had only local-based customers who all had common sense and knew unwritten rules for proper attitude in the facilities. Probably the business owners had a kind of headache for the foreign new comers who did not differentiate the traditional bathhouses from recreational swimming pools or who developed noisy dancing parties in inappropriate places, and that scared their local fixed customers…

What those business owners should do is making the effort to clarify the rules and encouraging the new comers to understand instead of putting out the “no foreigners”
