New air con servicing

Post by shine2313 » Thu, 10 Mar 2011 7:28 am

Hi all,

I'm wondering when you're supposed to get brand new air con serviced? We were told 6 months by our landlord's agent but now, they are threatening that it should have been 3 months per TA. Anyone have any experience with service of brand new air conditioners?

Thanks.

Same as an older air con. The better service guys pull the covers and wash the interior, wash the filters, vacuum the coils, and maybe spray a fungicide.

Personally, I think doing this every 3 months is a waste of time but it is in the TA.

Well, I did wash the internal air filter, and skipped the 3 month thingy and the agent came down on me like a tonne of bricks .. threatening me and all .. until i asked him if he gets a cut from the aircon agency .. he sort of went quite when I went on to remind him my partial C&G vocational training in HVAC and asked him to justify the need to 'gas' a properly working aircon and it didn't help that I rarely used the aircon and the 3M Aircon filter is kept clean .. his threats turned into a whimper going like "well, the agreement says .. " and when I told him I have got it covered through my own aircon agent for the next service, probably he swore to mark me as a tenant from hell - small little scams these guys pull ..

Honestly all they do for the aircon servicing is clean the internal filter and rarely if at all, top up the gas .. and $ 200 - for nothing .. a bit of DYI never hurt ..

And, 9 out of 10 times, the 25$ aircon cleaning offer always turn into something like 'need to do some extra work - only another 150$ .. "

My 2 cents .. :D

PS: of course, nowadays, I ensure that the contract is changed for 6 month servicing .. and I am still at a loss as to why you need to service a brand new aircon - and this being Singapore, landlords mostly tend to junk the old one when a new tenant comes in .. and get a new one ..
