Your "friend" should just pay his debt or arrange to pay it. It sounds very much to me that he is trying to avoid paying the debt forever by using the law.
Personally, it's folk like this that put up our credit card fees/insurances/etc.
Tell him to man up and arrange a payment plan, then he needn't worry about debt collectors!

These sorts of idiots are sociopathic aholes to whom the 'don't be selfish' argument makes no inroads with at all. The only commupance is that the pattern of their lies means their opportunities for advancement in life gradually decrease until hopefully their karma is balanced.
