Homebirths in singapore?

Post by intime0 » Sat, 05 Mar 2011 2:01 pm

Wow. I posted this on another singapore expat forum and it was deleted twice. Weird.

Has anyone here had a homebirth or know anyone who has. What are the rules? Are there midwives? Etc etc.

Doesn't surprise me at all. They are a bunch of psychos over there. Most of us oldtimers here are originally from that board but got fed up years ago.

Sorry, I can't help with any experience of homebirth in Singapore, but I believe my friend's doula might have supported home births before. I think her name is Ginny, and her Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/fourtrimesters.

I hope this is useful to you.

I haven't had a homebirth, but last week had bub number 3 (1st here).

We used the doula service mentioned above and when I was looking into my birthing options, after a waterbirth and as natural as possible the Dr who repeatedly came up was Dr Paul Tseng.

I believe he is one of the few Drs who offer homebirth options here. When I mentioned I would like to leave the hospital as soon as possible after the birth he was fine with it.

I am happy to be corrected but I don't think that midwives here tend to deliver babies here without Drs. Of course if labor is quick then they do.

i'm currently attending prenatal classes at parentlink and diann bustamante who runs parentlink, is a doula who has actually assisted in homebirths here in singapore. it may be worth contacting her to find out more about which doctors in singapore do it (from memory there are only 1 or 2 who will actually do it) and how feasible the whole thing is.

Paul Tseng does do homebirths. My doula had used him for her homebirth. There's at least one more that I've heard of but I don't know his name! But I had Paul Tseng for my first birth and can recommend him whole-heartedly.

Parentlink also does assist in homebirths. In fact if you go to their website they have a homebirth package. They have twice monthly gatherings for expectant mums you can attend to meet and talk to them about birth options. I really relied on them heavily for info as we moved to Singapore 5 months into my first pregnancy.

I have been considering a homebirth here as well for my second (first was at TMC). I believe a doctor does need to be present, don't think they license midwives to deliver. I think that the other doula company here, 4trimesters, also assists in homebirths if you want (but I have no experience with them).

If you don't know if you ever read about home births, how are we supposed to know if you did? :???:

Must be local?
