Enough for a family of 3?

Post by fercasa83 » Wed, 02 Mar 2011 5:41 pm

Hi All,

I'm about to start the negotiation for a new position in Singapore, and I would like your help to identify if my expectations (SG$7000 NET) would be enough to have a comfortable (not luxurious) lifestyle with my wife and 6 months old baby.

I know this question has been posted many times and many of you should be tired of it but please think about the time when you were researching the same information.

Some of you may think "well... what does comfortable means to you?" and here the details:
  • HDB flat (at least 2 rooms at an avg distance from CBD)
    Public transportation
No clubbing/Drinking (maybe a few times)
    Maid/babysitter
Be able to save a couple thousands
I used the following Cost of living calculator and it seems I would be able to do it

http://www.contactsingapore.sg/interact ... alculator/

I would really appreciate if you can add some costs and answer the poll

If you are not going to post helpful information please avoid doing it.

Cheers

When you say 7K NET you mean excluding tax?

If thats so, you should be able to save around 3000. Budget 2000 for the flat and another 2000 for the rest of the expenses.

Where's Nak? He's one of those IT types as well, isn't he? :P

But don't you think just one would have been enough? Now's he's done gone off and reposted the same post in a new thread. Guess he doesn't realize that we REALLY frown on all types of spam here. :?

I don't like going on to long diatribes.

OP already knows the answer to his questions; he's not asking us for an answer, he wants validation of the conclusion that he came up with.

I'd post Jean-Luc Picard here but I'm too exasperated to copy-and-paste the ASCII art...
