UK Passport Application *Original Documents?*

Post by simya357 » Thu, 24 Feb 2011 9:38 pm

Hi. Am applying for my daughter's UK passport and want to confirm that others who have recently applied for a UK passport sent the ORIGINAL REQUIRED documents via DHL to HK without any problems.

It seems risky to send our original marriage certificate and husband and daughter's original birth certificates, even if by certified express mail.

And given that you have to pay to call the British consulate, I thought it better to ask here.

Cheers.

Sending stuff by courier is the safest way. Marriage and birth certificates are not one-off documents, when you get home you can have as many "originals" made as you want (I have half-a-dozen of each actually).

Don't bother calling as they will charge you just to speak to you... you will literally have to give your CC number before anyone will answer any questions. Forget it.

I got my children's passports renewed recently and had sent the original documents to Hongkong via DHL.

Happy to tell you that I got them back in the same condition, no problems :D .

I had a similar experience with mine last month.

How long was the turnaround to get the docs and new passport(s) back?
