American Express - how low can they go?

Post by JeremyJGreen » Thu, 24 Feb 2011 9:17 pm

It is always hard to find someone who thinks that American Express is a quality company, well hear is the latest low from them...

My wife was thrilled to receive a set of complimentary and one-for-one spa vouchers on renewal of the card.

Unfortunately nearly all of the vouchers to PR and citizens only. It may well come as a surprise to Amex that 1.3 million people in Singapore will not be able to take up your offer (out of 5m).

Anyone else found a company that excludes 26% of their customers?

Idiots.

That seems odd, giving vouchers that only apply to citizens/PRs.

I take it your card(s) are issued directly by Amex and not a local bank?

Sounds more like it is a local bank office initiative just for Singaporeans/Pr's. What a cock up!

OCBC did the same thing when we applied for a Robinson's card at the EXPO fair. They gave us a free spa voucher valid only for Singaporeans/PR.
For those who fight for it, life has a flavor the sheltered will never know.

Do you think this is to explore (just a bit) anti-foreign sentiments (or better say so SCs/SPRS could feel special) or is it somehow subsidized by the gahment? I've seen few times similar restriction in the travel agencies for the trips to Malaysia for example.
