Good neighborhoods to live for a newbie Expat

Post by dprice01 » Mon, 21 Feb 2011 10:03 am

Hi! Does anyone have any suggestions on good neighborhoods to live in as a newbie to SIngapore? Looking for somewhere that's kind of close to everything (and I won't have a car and will need to get around on the metro).

Your location will also depend if you're by yourself or with a family. This link might be a good place to start your research.

The OP question is about as meaningless as me simply asking folk here what car I should buy.

I mean anyone (surely!), even a university student trying to find digs (student accomodation) will have some factors in mind. Budget, location, property type, facilities...

So why do people keep turning up here baldly asking 'Where should I live?'. (Or 'Is $x,000 a month enough to live on?').

It is not really the presumption that others might help that gets me at times, it is the fact that they seem to be doing so little to help themselves in the first place to get the best help.

Actually a friend was renting an apartment at the rear block ... and sort of felt insulated about the front block, and with his jet setting life and the low rental, was a happy camper -- until his daughter turned up here for a holiday - next day the Daughter moved to Marriot and told papa - to move or forget about having a daughter .. ;) ;)

Well, any expat must do a night safari in OT :) :)

At LEAST one. Some expats newbies have been going there for 20 years or more! (or at least until The Ginivy closed)

Is 'Top 10' still there?

Had to go and get a Cambodian visa last year and their embassy is in OT. Have to say the place kinda scares me these days! :?

Of course, it does, just that is has halved - to - Top 5 :) We have a bet running that on the next reincarnation it will be top 2.5 ;)

Well, day times at OT are totally cool ...

Those with german food craving can check out one of the nicest german spot there (during day time .. ) called L Aritsan .. (http://www.lartisan.asia/Menu.htm) and there are the famous Chopstix & Rice .. I could go on .. but when the sun goes down .. :???: :???:
