Mystery pub: Anyone know where it was
Mystery pub: Anyone know where it was
Early 90's... somewhere downtown. Somewhere old (maybe Victorian). Had a feeling of isolation away from hubbub. In a big garden, or small park? Definitely not snazzy more 'run down pub'. we used to go down have lunch and beers and then lie on the banquettes and have a nap
Might have been called The Mitre.
Any thoughts?

Okey-cokey
Here's Q.2
Does anyone remember a place someway down Serangoon Road (going NW, on the right), somehere near Deskar Road area that was simply called 'Bar'. Ground floor of a shophouse, Chinese run. Very rough and ready, as if in a time-warp, ancient bar with walls lined with wooden racks loaded with bottles.
Q3 concerns the 'Lo-Shan midnight club' on the junction of Prinsep/Selegie. Details might follow... lol, or more likely not...

Yep, I spent one night at the Mitre when I arrived here in 1982. It was almost a rite of passage for us newly arrived divers from overseas. It was decrepit and dirty & smelly even that far back. But there was something about the place and I did spend several evenings at the bar there until I found out there were clubs that had country music in them here.

I agree, but you'd probably cop out again!nakatago wrote:I think this is a sign that another drinking session is in order, if only to wash down the bad taste from the strife from certain threads.

Decrepit, yes that fair sums it up. Don't think I'd have wanted to spend a night there!sundaymorningstaple wrote:Yep, I spent one night at the Mitre when I arrived here in 1982. Sorry to hear that it is no more...
