Got job offer in Singapore - Need some info

Post by movetosing2011 » Mon, 07 Feb 2011 2:43 am

Hello All,
I have got a job offer of monthly salary SGD 6800$ Company will be paying for family insuarance and Medical expenses 4000 SGD pr yr. I have about 10 years of IT Expertise and i am Indian working in USA.
I have done my Bachelors Comp Engg from India, Masters (MS) Comp Science from NY USA and PMP. I work as a Tech Lead in USA. So is that salary enough ?

Appreciate if you guys can help me with following

1) Is SGD 6800 $ salary good enough in Singapore - I have wife and daughter 7 month old. We are simple people and dont smoke, booze etc etc. Not too fond of car etc .. love local transport !
2) Normally whats the rent for 1 bedroom flat in good locality
3) Company is filing my EP and there are no taxes on EP. But what are expenses per month. (Utilities, Taxes, Etc etc)
4) My wife will be coming on dependent Visa but can she get a job in Singapore. She too is an IT professional and can join as a Prof in College.
5) I have got a Permanent Position in a Good Company but how permanent are these jobs ?

Thanks in advance. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This question/s has been discussed time and time again. I would suggest in my humblest and lowest opinion that you look for yourself by clicking the search button below the profile link on the top hand corner.

There are some very excellent post that you read and absorb. Type in rent, monthly expenses etc etc... You will be surprised the wealth of information that have been gathered for many centuries are splatted right in front of you....

One small factor - there ARE taxes on EP. If you earn over 22K/annum you will pay income taxes. You can go here to check how much it will affect you....

The salary is enough, but then even 3500$ may be enough. It depends on:
1)What you were earning in the US?
2)What kind of lifestyle/comforts you had?
3)How much you were saving?
4)How happy you are in your current role ?
5)How desperate you are to get out of your company or US?

Everything is relative. If you could give some info about these questions may be we can tell you how good is 6800$

U r really great. I am looking for job in SG.

I still wonder if I
a) should apply myself PEP first (foreigner over SGD 7000) or
b) should find job first or
c) should apply for in-principle LPR?

PS: I would like to come with my wife.

Which question couldn't you understand the answers to. Everything you asked is/has been asked/answered before. You really should use the search facility here.

Mate !!

First and foremost, all of us here are busy too !! We do not do this for money nor to add accolades to our string of achievement.
We do this for FREE, let me spelled it FFFFF RRRRR EEEE EEEEE FREEEEEEE.......!! at our own time and space. SO.... If you got something coming, bring it ON or else, swallow it !!
Are you the only that is busy ??? Hmm.......

The topic you queries has been discussed till death do us apart so there is nothing new. If something that is different , do not worry, all of us will spring to action. You are simply LAZY to look for it. We have been replying to the same old questions for the past months so help me GOD.

You came here with two hands holding and clasping looking for answer and I have replied to you . If you cannot help yourself who will ???

:x :x

Since you haven't answered my questions nor do you have any time to do any research, I will give you my answers based on the face value of the info you have provided.

1) 6800$ is good enough. But you dont need an MS nor PMP nor be a tech lead nor have 10 yrs exp to get that salary. I am aware of people who are earning 7k $ with just a B Tech degree and working as individual contributors. So I would say you are getting a raw deal. Are you sure you are coming from the US of A? Even if I was coming from India or Phillipines I wouldn't have accepted that offer if I had the kind of profile like you. Thats why I asked what your current situation is.

Now that you mentioned you work 23 hrs a day, I can see that you are pretty desperate, so yeah 6.8K may be good for you.

2) There are no 1 bedroom flats. There are just 2 bedroom flats and higher. Expect to spend atleast 1.8k++ in rent for a fully furnished house.

3) For a couple expenses are normally ~3k including housing. You need to budget more for your daughter.

4) Your wife can easily find a job, no worries.

5) They are as permanent if not more than the jobs in the US. :P

Cheers!
