Hi Taxiguy, many thanks, seems like the guy added a dodgy on-call surcharge at the end.

My second question concerning the booking of taxis came to mind because I was at KK Hospital recently and called SMRT for a cab. After being on hold for something like 5-7 minutes I heard an automated response that there are no cabs in my area, and something like "please press X to try again.". So I hung up... and something like 3 mins later an SMRT cab pulls up to the taxi stand (without drop-off there). It was an old-style cab without the LED sign on the roof, that's why I thought that maybe they don't do on-call in those. I guess their system isn't very efficient if they miss out on a few extra $$$ like this...

Just out of curiosity, which areas does the "Central Business District (CBD) Surcharge" after 5pm apply to? I've heard that it applies to Suntec as well, is that true? And if so, does it also apply to hotels in the area or Marina Square?

The SMRT system is a different system of those use in COMFORT Cabs. In SMRT Call System, Cabbies can choose to take the Call or Not to take Call.
Because some Cabbies are cheated by Customers whereby they book a cab already but take the Next available taxi thats comes by and then Cancel the booking to save the Extra $$$. No penalty for Customers who cancel booking but if we take Call and stuck in traffic jams and late, we will be penalise by the company.

By the way, I am also a SMRT Old Style Cab which clocks around 30+ calls a month.

Thank you for your support in SMRT Taxis.

I got a question for taxiguy. I would appreciate it if you are able to help me out.

On saturday at around 1050pm I got into a cab with two other people at clarke quay and our destination was marina bay sands.
I saw the cab driver key in surcharge 3.50 on the meter so I asked him what was the purpose of the surcharge.
He said it was for city centre surcharge so I said ok.
After a few mins I realised the surcharge was 3.00 rather then 3.50.
So I left it at that and when we reached out destination I asked for a receipt.
The cab driver was pretty defensive and said in a very sarcastic manner whether I wanted a photo as well.
This made me suspect that he was trying to pull a fast one on me by charging me extra.
So i saw the receipt and it said 7.00 fare charge, 3.00 cbd surcharge then 0.50 surcharge.
I have no idea what is this 0.50 surcharge.

Is there an extra charge for 3 ppl taking a cab?

"Premier managing director Lim Chong Boo told MediaCorp that the firm considered the possibility of customers boycotting Premier cabs due to the move.

But their dollar sense weighed in."

I guess I'm behind the times, I still use the old fashioned term 'greed'

The Cab that you have taken should be a Silver Cab. ONLY SILVER CABS has additional $0.50 Fuel surcharge.

All other taxis does not have this FUEL SURCHARGE in place.

There is NO Extra for the third and forth Person as Singapore Taxis are allow to carry 4 people. The ONLY EXTRA PERSON charges only applies to larger cabs that takes more than 4 people.

Hope that it clear!

Thank you.
