Right, I should not say anything, just shut up.

I guess there is also democracy in a forum, especially when most of you are from western countries. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Good day!

We are all big boys and girls on this forum. While direct attacks such as racial slurs are plainly evident (and not tolerated), syllogisms, categorical propositions, and oblique references are slurs in the minds of some, not of others.

While I personally feel this thread has degenerated into worthless attacks, I don't see anything that requires the thread be locked or posters warned or blocked. I tend to agree with WIMH, and I think Auntie Annie has to be brain dead if she is not fully aware of how she stirs the pot.

We moderators are loathe to censor in any way, except for a handle of obvious situations. The board owners have always let it run as wide open as possible.

So, my advice is this: Annie, go take a cold shower, and quit turning ever reply of yours into an accusation. The rest, go take a cold shower, and quit posting. You only provide more fodder.

WIMH:
"At this point it's all mudslinging. One side needs to stop, and then the other side will as well. It just depends who is the bigger person."

On one side you have a group of people, on the other you have one person.

Whose behavior would seem the easier to successfully change?

The other consideration, is whether everybody on a forum has a desire to be a 'bigger person' for the collective good. In my experience you'll always have personailities that do not (trolls being the extreme).

p.s. I am not entering the fray or being personal, I am floating this from a purely practical viewpoint.

This is not about censorship but just some time to cool the things down. People can always open another thread if they want to but I bet they will think more than twice before doing it. And I did not necessarily mean to lock the tread not to mention to ban anybody.

Maybe they choose not to talk about personal finances with people they barely know? This is why the premise of your original post can only lead to hard feelings.
I guess I was right, since this thread has only lead to hard feelings. It started off bad and got worse, but it was doomed from the beginning because of the inflammatory nature of the opening salvo. Classic GIGO scenario, which is why I got out early. Mark Twain said: Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. :)

This is not in the OP but may become entangled in unintentional slants in the course of discoursal attacks, such as this repeated one, and explanations.
The quotation from Mark Twain sounds exactly equivocal.

OMG, what a hot potato here!
The good thing is there's FP in all the latest high techs you guys are buying for your parents, but let not the word 'buy' stain the purist concept of non-monetary love.
What a stange deviation this thread's gone - what's the subtext?
Clues, clues clues; yet some people don't know it takes two to tango.
But thanks mods, you're a fair bunch, and utterly lovable beings under the heavy armoury. Bet you can't wait for the bottle after this amount of warfare, just don't make me pay for the rounds. ( fingers crossed )
Just one snag, here SE, I'm not annIE as in Annie Get Your Gun, but Anne and it's just one syllable. I remember telling you this before ( which shows I pay attention to you )
Brain dead? Well, I must have been to too many operas or scorned by too many kids. Don't our parents always want us to do better than them.
No cold showers here in temperatures that's -1 honey.
But I am extremely sorry if this thread's attracting high volumes that'll affect the board's business. Just let me know and I'll vanish like Ariel in the Tempest.

Sounds like the typical advice given from ‘old and wise heads’ on a forum for how to deal with a troll.

How about adding an "Ignore list" button to the user profile?

Alternatively - if you see a thread started by someone you don't admire, just ignore and get on with your life.

If you are counting me as one of the five, I would like to state for the record that when you, not me, initiated the private correspondence and raised the topic of Anne, this was my verbatim reply:

"I just felt sorry for Anne. Yes she is long-winded and difficult to understand, and she was very rude to you and others, and she deserves a lot of the treatment she gets. But I also think she is unfairly treated in some ways.

She became worse and worse when more and more people became rude to her. It's a vicious cycle and very sad to watch."

This is getting very ugly. Anne is no saint, but what she has done is nothing compared to what I see some of you doing. There seems to be a campaign to ostracise Anne, and I don't like it at all. There are enough sensible heads in this forum to put an end to this stampede, and I hope good sense and human compassion will prevail.
WIMY, thanks for baring it all. I never guessed it would get so underhanded, especially when I have only shown a sense of fun and jesting in my defences ! I'm so sorry to have you involved.
I really hope this pm to you does not spoil your day and will not affect
you in any way.
Don't worry about the campaign - the mods will know how to deal with it. They have been most tolerant and have kept this forum going as a platform for free speech but they'll know how to deal with persistent abusers. It's sad indeed to have to watch this happening.

'Ignore poster' and 'Report this post' can both be very useful in controlling a forum (this has crossed my mind re: this forum before). But, they can't easily (if at all) be retrofitted into the existing forum structure where they do not already exist.

Hi SMS Yes, I'm aware you must communicate to one another!
That's why I pmed you my concerns. I'm here to contribute to a globally competitive brilliant forum and not to harm it in any way. Let me know if I should stop posting and it'll actually be a blessing in disguise for me - so I can get on with my own work.
Who's really the newbie who posted as 'chatter' with the giveaway statement underneath that says, ' last edited by eau' a few posts back? What do you do with clones???

And if you want to get bitchy you can have 'Rate this post' +/-1. Always a good feature to encourage pack-attitude.

Hehehe... go and look at the Daily Mail comments... so predictable lah :)
