SPR Application 2011 pre or post GE?

Postby xobs » Mon, 17 Jan 2011 12:44 pm

Dear all,

I'm a Vietnamese national, having stayed in Singapore for totally 5.5 years. I got a bachelor's degree from a local university in engineering in 2009 and having worked here for 1.5 years (for same place, same job, quite stable). Now I've just enrolled in a master's program as a part-time student (having to pay fees) and keep my full-time job (as I'm also serving a 3-year bond). My master's study is at a public local university and I'm currently on Q-type EP.

Last time, late 2009, I applied for PR but got rejected. No surprise, that was a hard time. This time 'round, I intend to reapply. So my question is: Is it a better time to do so (as compared to late 2009 and 2010 when the policy was tightened)? Some people told me to go ahead and do it as it's more a matter of luck but some told me to wait until the general election (GE) is over. GE is supposedly to take place somewhere in Feb, 2011. Which one would you take?

Frankly, the benefits that I'm looking forward to are:
(1) Long-term: Singapore is a decent place to live and settle down with high standards of living and world-class salaries that scale up with qualifications and experiences (which I'm trying to build up).
(2) Short-term: I will immediately enjoy subsidized school fees applicable to PRs which would save me substantial cash.

Looking forward to y'all opinions,
-Thanks

Who told you that the elections would take place in February 2011?

Oops, my bad...it says Feb 2012 but I thought it was Feb 2011. So the question is a foregone conclusion.

Let me rephrase it: Should I apply now or after the fiscal year's ending (March 31st)?

Not sure which one they take as the quota year (calendar or fiscal). The reason being that they might have used up the PR quota for this year and applying at the fresh start next year would be an advantage, isn't it?

Thanks ;-)

Nobody knows what they use for the quotas. Anyway, any quotas that may have been in existence are no longer in place and the numbers have been drastically reduced and will continue probably until such time as the GE is over with (whenever that is). The quota, if any, are irrelevant until after the election. As you have already been rejected once. You would do well to wait till after the elections are over at the earliest instance. Max of 12 months or so.

Thanks for y'all replies!
But you know what I've decided to just go for it and filed my application. We'll wait and see. But I'm not so optimistic. The day I handed in my application I asked the lady officer about the chances, all she did was shaking her head and said "very hard...". Not good news at all :-(

Hello Friend,
I am just curious to know if you applied finally till now or not since GE is already over. If yes, Can you share the results if you don't mind.
Hope your dream come or must have come true already :) ..Cheers!!

Are you looking for a certain template that matches your application. If this is what you are trying to do, go on keep on trying as you will never get to find out one that is similar to you by the tiniest margin. Nought, nadda, zilch, zero, kosong, elek, liang.
