Another Pay Inquiry

Post by deity_me » Mon, 17 Jan 2011 11:21 am

First I apologise if this has been answered before but I don't quite know what would my search terms be if I used the search tool.

I've been reading in other threads that Caucasians tend to get paid more because they are from the west compared to others from say India or Philippines.

Here is a bit of background info about me.
I am Filipino
I am a Canadian citizen with Canadian education and work experience
I've lived in Canada for most of my life.

If I do get an offer, will they try to offer me a lower salary because of my race?

I am going to apply for EPEC in a couple of months after my project here goes live and will make my way to Singapore by around the end of April and apply for the LTVP.

Would my chances of landing a job increase if I was there?
Would my potential salary offer be more if I applied from here?

Thanks

Possibly, but only you know what you are worth. You are the salesman.

SMS

From my other thread that you responded to
I guess I will take that leap of faith and go to Singapore without a job offer.

Thanks

My supervisor is an expat from US and he definitely draw a higher salary than a local. That's probably because my department wanted to hire someone with 10 years of US experience.

He came over to Singapore for the interview.

I was hired, sight unseen, with only a phone interview. I asked for 50% more that what they initially had on the table and with some hemming and hawing, they agreed and basically hired me on the word of my competitor's supervisor in the US (who knew me very well). I was sent a "telex" about 1 meter long which was the contents of my contract. To confirm, I sent a return telex, was told to buy a ticket and it would be reimbursed upon arrival and that was it. Now that's the way to be headhunted.
