Where's the "Like" button for JR8's last post? :D

nakatago - lol
ev-disinfection - hey, the honesty is refreshing
jr8 - I have a friend who got caught like that too. His girlfriend saw pictures of him and a friend of hers that was tagged and they were looking more friendly than they should have been. He said they were just hanging out but it was very obvious there was more to it.
ksl - sorry to hear about your ex wife. It's a good point you make though - a leopard doesn't change its spots and better to find out before you add a ring to the spots.

Another week and Facebook have yet another new way of selling your profile data.

They describe it thus...
-----
'Our goal is to give you a great social and personalised experience with every app and website you use. We've worked with a select set of partners to personalise your experience as soon as you arrive on their sites.

These partner sites (currently limited to Bing, TripAdvisor, Clicker, Rotten Tomatoes, Docs, Pandora, Yelp, and Scribd), can only access the information and content you've already made available to everyone. All our partners are required to respect your information and we've worked closely with them to make sure they do.'
-----

A friend (yah a real living one!) explained how to disable it, thus:
'The New FB Privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" has gone into effect. The new setting shares your data with non-FB sites & it is automatically set to "Enabled".Go to Account>Privacy Settings>Apps & Websites>Instant Personalization>edit settings & uncheck "Enable". BTW If your friends don't do this, they will be sharing info about you as well. Please copy and repost.

That is why I don't list any. My 20 Friends don't need to read what my Likes are, as they already participate in them with me. On that Apps, Games and Websites page there is also an option under Apps You Use to 'Turn off all platform apps'. That seems to kill off a wide range of otherwise automatically enabled (as of this week!?) data sharing.

I don't join Causes, as I reckon 98% of them are created just to scalp Profile information. Same re: Apps, Games and so on...

Yes, that is the whole episode.

No I reckon it's down to geographic media rights. If a friend in SG posts me a link to a youtube music video there is about a 1/3 chance that it won't let me view it here due to media rights. If I log in via my UK VPN I can usually view them, so about 95% in total are viewable through my German or UK ip addresses.

The page I got up re: Southpark tells me to go to another general address for Southpark vids. But it has lost the specific episode link that Nak intended, so that unfortunately just leaves me... rather at sea really!

I did the same at first as well. Then I went back. Then after a bit I deactivated it again. It really was too overwhelming in a way.

Now I have the thing so tightly nailed down/controlled that I benefit from it more than it benefits from me.

Until Zuckerberg decides to add another feature that defaults to "non-private"

I absolutely agree with you Nak, it is a thing that you have to keep on top of. In fact one of the subjects we do discuss as friends on FB (above and beyond music, pix, recipes etc) is the latest privacy holes. So as a group we keep ourselves quite well protected I think.

How do you get poked by guys you dont really know? Dont accept strangers as your friend

My friend from elementary found me through facebook. So did few other old friends. Whether its good or bad depends on you.
Too much of something isnt good for you, and only you can control the portion really...
