Commute to Tuas - Travel times?

Post by zonemelt » Sat, 08 Jan 2011 5:56 pm

Hi folks,

Just researching areas to live. All going well we'll be moving to SG in Feb (couple, no children) and I'll be working in Tuas. We like to live in the centre of the action and my partners job will be in the city.

What are commute times to Tuas like from areas like Holland Village, Tanglin, Orchard etc?

I can get limited info from google maps or the MRT website but what do you guys think?

For reference the commute to my last job was 45 min-1 hr by car or 1.5-2.5 hrs by bus, so I'm looking forward to reducing that

Cheers.

Pretty much most traffic will be headed in the opposite direction, towards town. You've got a couple of major highways (the AYE and PIE) takes you from central areas to Tuas.

Almost certainly, as long as you're not living in CHangi, your commute will be shorter.

Thanks CG, good to know

Anybody else here travel daily from the centre out to Tuas?

What about travel times on public transport? Should we just be looking west of city or would some areas on the east side be a reasonable commute?

Cheers.

Try gothere.sg or google maps. Pick a point in Tuas and wherever you want to live. Click directions and choose public transport. You'll be given options, including travel time. From personal experience, Holland Village to Joo Koon MRT is around 30-40 door-to-door.

It is very much dependent on the time you travel. From Holland Village to Benoi Sector it takes 15-20 min if you start around 7:15-7:30. Around 8 it could be closer to 30-35 min. the traffic relaxes again after 9.

Companies in Tuas offered own transportation to pickup . I will be alittle surprise if yours doesn't, coz travelling to Tuas for work can be alittle daunting especially if you have to catch a MRT.

You have to alight at Boon Lay station and take public transport to your final destination. You may also wish to visit, SBS website for bus route servicing to your company from Boon Lay.
