TESOL /CELTA courses

Post by CreativeAnn » Sat, 08 Jan 2011 4:53 pm

Enough of Finance and now I am thinking about teaching overseas. Been doing alot of research on TESOL and CELTA. Always thought that only the British Council offered CELTAhere in Singapore but I saw another school that also offers CELTA in Singapore. I am pretty sure I wanna do the CELTA but has anybody heard of Heartpower TESOL? Saw their website and it looked pretty good but websites are easy to do right?

They have part time courses that suits me but $5k is alot to part with! So before I part with it... if anybody can give me feedback about please?

THANKS!
Ann

Heard of them but don't know much more. Noticed they are registered with the government here. So that's a good start. Yes the CELTA is the best choice. It certainly opens more doors for you.

If I may, stay away from a Diploma in TESOL. I did my looking around last year. There were about 13 schools offering it and it looks like the accrediting body in UK is somewhat "virtual". I say virtual because I even tried to check them out on Google Maps UK and saw some industrial estate. No campus that I could see. Although I was pleased to see I could get a Diploma for as low as $2k, but life experience tells me, you get what you pay for.

I even came across a place in Peninsular Plaza that offered the Masters in TESOL from the same UK outfit. The University accrediting it was also a virtual campus in the Caicos Islands! I was pretty good at social studies but never heard of it...

Stick with Cambridge. Nothing virtual there. 2012 CELTA for me. Good luck and tell me how you go. Probably be back in NSW next year so doing it there.

Hi, I did the CELTA with them and they're great. No need to worry. Theyre a new centre but very professional and they were pretty understanding with the fears I had about being an English teacher. They also let me do more Teaching Practice after I finished my CELTA and never asked me for more money. Speak to Adeline. She's a straight shooter and very nice.

Yeah I looked at the Diploma too but more and more schools want the CELTA and the Diploma has a heavy emphasis on theory. I wanted practical training.

Good Luck.
