Employment pass

Post by SSL » Fri, 05 Mar 2004 12:33 pm

Hi, I have the same problem. Well, almost the same. I've been offered a job in a singapore tech company. I've signed the contract, sent my credentials and filled out form 8. I've also resigned from my job (at an american multinational) and allowed for a 1 week break to sort things out (a place to stay in singapore, docs to process). The day I reserved a ticket to go there (I was going to use the 8 day social pass for house hunting), I gave the company a call to confirm the EP. I was shocked to find out that I've been denied by MOM. I tried asking what was wrong but they couldn't give me an answer. They said they're writing an appeal letter. I'm just totally pissed that (1) they should have told me sooner and (2) I went through the hassle of planning things.
Anyway, I read from the MOM website that they were offering a new S pass, but this won't be till July.

Anyone got a clue what the point system is for a Q pass? and what are the possible grounds for rejection. Thanks.

Possible reasons for rejection include "they don't like your tie" and "too many people with the same skin color apply oreddi". In general getting a Q pass is more difficult, because Singapore prefers P-class expats with big salaries who live the high life and pay big taxes too.

I know this advice is too late now, but you really should have sorted out the immigration paperwork and gotten the Approval-In-Principle before resigning from your previous job :(

You've signed the new contract already, so see if it covers this situation. Odds are very high the blame for any immigration issues will be assigned squarely on you, but you never know...

(And I presume you mean this thread by "same problem" -- next time hit Post Reply, not New Topic!)

I was afraid you'd say that. I've read about the new S pass. Will this help my plight in any way? Well, I guess the unemployment rate here just went up a notch. Thanks anyway.

If anyone's looking for good computer vision engineer I'm kinda available.

Thanks again
